Re-An Open Letter To Senator Helen Esuene By Aniefiok Macauley

Senator Helen Esuene
I want to believe that this is another campaign of calumny by paid agents to pull down the personality of senator Esuene. A common sense would have told the likes of Edet Friday Edet, whether this is his real name or pseudo  as the case may be that the constitutional function of any lawmaker is to make laws for the good governance of the society, any other thing is jara.
I believe that if Edet had really wanted to have audience

The Man, the Menace, the Moment and the Musketeers

  • A tale of President Jonathan and the meretricious northern leaders

The man president Goodluck Jonathan has been known for his calm mien and amazing level of tolerance in the face of adversity. From his days as deputy governor of bayelsa state when people that cannot match up with him, will look at him in the face and spite him because of their relationship with his then boss and he will not lose his head nor lose sleep over that. Perhaps, during his stint as deputy governor of bayelsa state,

A personal letter to Chinua Achebe by Frank Opara

Dear Achebe,
It was my dream to meet you in person. Even as old age closed up on you, I still did not lose hope of a memorable meeting with you.
As an undergraduate at the University of Calabar, I once laid ‘ambush’ for you at the university’s famous annual “English and Literary Studies Symposium/Lecture” immediately I saw your name among the list of literary giants who were to grace the occasion. As it may interest you to note, I drafted a list of Igbo proverbs which I needed you to break down or translate into your unique style of English grammar that made you a famous wordsmith.

Governor Amaechi At The Threshing Floor Of PDP

Written by Sunny Dada

“Somebody sent me a text and said my dear party less governor.”
“…it is only the PDP that has the guts to suspend a governor without a reason.” …Amaechi

The title of this feature was informed by the various thanksgiving services organized by the factional Chairmen of the Nigerian Governors Forum; Governor Rotimi ChubuikeAmaechi of Rivers State and Jonah Jang of Plateau State, thanking God for their respective victories at the just concluded #NGF elections.
This piece had initially come with several conflicting headlines like: ‘Jang in Amaechi’s Threshing Floor,’ Amaechi in Jang’s Threshing Floor,’ ‘Amaechi in GEAJ’s Threshing Floor,’ ‘Amaechi in Akpabio’s Threshing Floor,’ etc.

Agitation Of State Police: How To Attain Peace And Security In Nigeria (6) By Uzoma Ahamefule

  • Equal states to all the geo political zones in Nigeria

Uzoma Ahamefule
For Nigeria to have sustainable peace, those agitating for a state police should kindly because of national interest put that idea aside. We are simply not yet ripe for that.
Though some people could come up with powerful theoretical analyses why the state police should be imperative, but they might forget to mention how the politicians and state governors have managed to manipulate the police even now under the control of the federal government against any person or group of persons they have perceived as political opponents. What happens when they are in absolute control? I strongly believe that such power will be abused since many Nigerian politicians and elites have abused the ban on the use of sirens and tinted glasses because they know the state commissioner of police or are connected to the governor, thus, no police officer can arrest them no matter their crimes.

Interview: Ohakim left 540 million naira for UBE project, but it disappeared under Okorocha - Emma Ibe

"The policy of this government is a calculated
attempt to destroy us. We voted for this
government and the government said it has
come to rescue us but it is not rescuing the
citizens. It is destroying us gradually."

Governor Rochas Okorochas
Emma Ibe is the chairman of the contractors in Imo State under the name "Imo Development Partners (IDP)". In this short and spontaneous but well informing interview with Global Reporters Vienna, he spoke about the plight of contractors in Imo State under the leadership of Rochas Okorocha, lamented the regrettable deaths of his two colleagues he alleged to have died as a result of non-payment of projects they had completed for the Imo State government and warned that many might die if nothing was done urgently. He also accused Okorocha of abandoning due process in awarding government contracts to his personal company, ROCHE, and equally revealed that the former Governor, Ikedi Ohakim, left 540 million naira in the bank for the payments of the UBE projects in question, but that immediately the government of Okorocha "came on board", the money vanished from the bank.

REJOINDER: UWAJUMOGU IS ON ERRAND

Definitely, anyone looking up to Ethelbert Okere, the henchman of
Chief Ikedi Ohakim, to pick up his pen and say good of the incumbent
administration in the state, must be day dreaming. He can never do it!
Imagine how you will feel if, like prying eagle one suddenly pounces

recover your food.

Another Loss for Akpabio: Court Quashed Treason Charges Against Senator Udoedehe

By Thompson

Earlier Today (Monday, May 27, 2013), a federal court sitting in Abuja quashed the treason charges filed against Senator John Udoedehe by Godswill Akpabio and members of his administration over the incident of election violence, which resulted in the destruction of several properties owned by the government on April 22, 2010.

The sitting judge blamed Akpabio’s administration for bringing to his court a case which the Attorney General and the lawyers in the state’s Ministry of Justice have known all along that it lacked merits and without any shred of evidence that could connect the Senator to the incident.

TAMING THE EDUCATION SECTOR

The recent release of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result few weeks back by the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) continues to elicit both negate and positive debates among students and stakeholders. In fact, this year’s UTME has become starkly controversial than any other period in its history, simply because of the intricacies that surrounded the exam from start to finish. Many had expected positive impact or outcome from the exercise but alas, the exercise appeared as one in futility, if the results and statistics coming from the exam body are anything to go by.

What Nigerians don’t know about my pardon —Alamieyeseigha

THE SUN - When the Federal Government announced a state pardon for former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, this was greeted by wild condemnation, both within and outside the country.
However, speaking for the first time since then, Alamieyeseigha has stated that those who are criticising the action are ignorant of the internal workings of government. According to him, the administration of the late President Umar Yar’Adua negotiated with him and his pardon was part of the agreement reached with the Federal Government.

More often than not, a child’s character and views begin to be shaped at the primary school level. This is why the ambience of the school a child attends is as important as the knowledge being impacted within the walls of the school.

Battle Of Wits: Geaj/Amaechi Goes For The Jugular

Finally the week we have all waited patiently for has come with all the expected intrigues which may include betrayals, new alliances and the formation of the political road map towards 2015 by players, spectators and alike. The much awaited NGF Election is here!
I remember following my late Grand Father Chief Herbert Charles Namapele, the Torukongo 1 of Okrika on a fishing expedition; an art I cherished so much as a little boy.
Back in the day, I had always looked forward to the long term holidays just to have the opportunity to join my late grand father at the fishing ports.

The Achebe I knew By Chido Onumah

Chido Onumah
“Indiscipline pervades our life so completely that one may be justified in calling it the condition par excellence of contemporary Nigerian society”- Chinua Achebe, The Trouble with Nigeria.
Prof. Chinua Achebe, literary giant, celebrated author, humanist and patriot par excellence, who was buried yesterday, was Nigeria’s gift to Africa, and indeed, the world. Like most people, I first encountered Achebe through his numerous books before I met him in person. I shall return to the unforgettable encounter with him four years ago.

When the above salvos were launched by the Rivers State Governor Rt Hon. Rotimi Chubuike Amaechi during the Rivers State Citizens Forum at the Alfred Diete Spiff Sports Complex which also served as part of events that marked the 2013 National Good Governance Tour that took place from Thursday 14th to 16th February 2013, political observers knew that the loquacious governor had effectively lit the fiery brimstone that may later consume his political dynasty hastily built in the aftermath of the Supreme Court Judgment that foisted him on Rivers People.

Tribute to Achebe: When a man has made his name, he needs no titles

I have been wrapped in thought on Achebe's burial proceedings. Nigeria is a comical composition amongst Comity of Nations - I recall that Achebe wrote his most celebrated literary piece, ' Things Fall Apart' at the age of 27. He did not write it from Harvard or MIT, he wrote it at the Premier University College, Ibadan. Achebe's classical work depicts his genius and the manner of knowledge transfer obtainable then. May i ask, what has happened to our

Open Letter To NGF: Betray Not One Of Your Own For Material Gain By Igwe Douglas

It is allegedly the highest height of desperation if what is being reported in an online news website about how the President of Nigeria, Mr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan wants to compel the Nigerian Governors’ forum to hold its election in the Presidential villa for obscure or rather obvious reasons known to him.
This latest move of the President if truly true is anti-democratic, imperious and smacks of desperation of a man clutching at straw.

Nasarawa Crisis: Genesis And The Way Forward By Godwin Onyeacholem

Slowly but surely, the resort to ethnic preservation and protection – which is a natural outcome of deep ethnic consciousness – will continue to spread in irritating spaces like Nigeria so long as leaders wilfully deploy the principle of injustice as the principal tool of governance. Without meaning to exaggerate its disadvantage, it is this undeclared but obvious adoption of immoral and unjust system of administration, consistently enforced with the backing of security agents and hired mercenaries, which always widens the crack in a society and provokes bloody violence among its people from time to time.

NIGERIA’S FOREIGN POLICY: IN DECLINE OR ROBUST? BY MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

I read the article titled 'Decline of Nigeria's Foreign Policy', published in The Guardian of 6th May 2013 by Dr. Adekeye Adebajo, Executive Director for Conflict Resolution, Cape Town, South Africa. He obviously did not do the basic research to capture the activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the last two years. It is curious that a ‘scholar’ could write an article on Foreign Policy and deliberately dish out false information to the wider public, for self aggrandisement.  It is therefore, appropriate to write this article to put the record straight and not allow the dissemination of falsehood, based on intellectual laziness or plain mischief, to triumph over truth.

“There is nothing exclusive in the term unity; unity for Nigeria holds out the best chance for progress when that unity is a unity of purpose rather than the present hollow approach to unity for sake of unity. The name Charles Thurstan Shaw may not strike a resemblance of an important personality to the current generation of Nigerians, but in the world of archaeology, the name is highly venerated. This assertion stems from the fact that Prof. Shaw from the 50s single handed through archaeology, began a process of re-examining and re-evaluating the African past with colleagues in the field of history to assert that the African continent possessed an enviable past as against the arguments by Eurocentric scholars who in their irrational prognosis claimed Africa was only a society of savage peoples who had contributed nothing significant to civilization.
